Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP

What is platelet rich plasma?

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is blood plasma that contains concentrated amounts of platelets and growth factors. PRP is a non-surgical means of providing high doses of the body’s own healing factors directly to the area where they are needed.

How does it work?

Platelet Rich Plasma is a trending topic in human sports & orthopedic medicine. It is used for both acute injuries and many wear and tear issues.  Blood is drawn from your pet and processed. The platelets are then concentrated and activated. Once the platelets are activated, they contain many healing growth factors and bioactive proteins. These bioactive proteins can initiate tissue healing, and assist with reducing pain and inflammation.  PRP offers an all natural option for pain reduction and increased speed of healing, especially when pets become refractory (not responsive) to conventional medications and treatments. It is also safe and effective to use in addition (concurrently) to current therapy for even more pain relief.

What conditions does PRP treat?

How does it benefit your pet?

PRP can be introduced topically, in or around an injured joint, tendon, or used in its gel form to treat large burns or wounds.

What conditions can it be used for?

  • Osteoarthritis (ACL tears, hip dysplasia, hip, knee, elbow, carpus, tarsus, shoulder arthritis)

  • Tenosynovitis (inflammation of tendons, partial tendon/ligament strains, tears)

  • Wound Care (degloving injuries, burn wounds, sloughed skin)

  • Refractory / Indolent Corneal Ulcers

  • General Inflammation

  • Post Surgical Healing
